Innovations in 2014 – Cause Communications

Sharing what works is a core part of our mission to use Communications for Good. Almost 15 years ago we created the non-profit Cause Communications to focus specifically on improving the skills and knowledge of communications in the nonprofit sector. We have been busy creating The Communications Toolkit, the How Bad Ads Happen to Good Causes, How Bad Presentations Happen to Good Causes and our other guides and tools that have been used by over 20,000 organizations at last count. The good news is that the field of nonprofit communications and marketing has grown and matured in the last 15 years with more organizations understanding that communications is a powerful strategy to advance their goals.

How we communicate has also radically changed during this time. So, we are trying something new here at Cause Communications! We are experimenting with new tools for a 21st century communicator using an approach modified from the startup world and making waves in social entrepreneurial circles – Lean Impact – in an effort to create what is most useful to you – providing advice and tools now to help address the challenges you face today. “Going Lean” encourages testing and experimentation and feedback using iterative methods over traditional “big planning up front” development. We will be creating new “how-to”s and other resources and making revisions based on what we see and hear from you – the people who are using them.
